Crimson Desert developer Pearl Abyss has released this week’s update as promised, and it adds what it said it would add. But it also adds a whole lot more, including a surprise claw machine mini-game that gives unique rewards.
Update 1.06.00, rolling out across all platforms now, adds the extraction feature that lets players recover materials used in refinement. We knew this was coming, but we now know exactly how it works. The details are in the patch notes, below, but the upshot is special materials such as Artifacts and Aeserion’s scale are recovered at 100% of the amount used (thank goodness!), and common materials such as iron ore, copper ore, and bloodstones are recovered at approximately 70% of the amount used. This should make the endgame grind to fully upgrade your favorite equipment a lot faster.
As for the special mounts, there are a number of animals that you can now tame to be summonable mounts: bears; boars; wolves; deer; mountain goats; kuku birds; iguanas; raptors; camels; lions; and tigers. Ferocious animals can be tamed by subduing and feeding them, Pearl Abyss explained, while certain species require unique methods to tame.
Meanwhile, there’s a new Display Sheath option that lets you choose whether your character’s sheath is shown, a new Sigil of Valor item that, when equipped, makes pet dogs attack enemies (take that, cats!). And, brilliantly, a new claw machine at the Laughing Marionette. There are unique rewards tied to this: 12 types of lighting items; one type of chair; one type of special headgear; Abyss Artifacts; and Abyss Gears.
The new Night Tone Mode makes overall colors softer, and darker, shaded areas appear slightly brighter. When it’s disabled, overall colors become sharper, and darker, shaded areas appear slightly darker, Pearl Abyss said.
The pace of these updates, which have arrived pretty much weekly since the game’s launch, is remarkable. Pearl Abyss has only just improved the entire endgame, adding the boss Rematch and Re-blockade features, rounding out what we thought was coming to the game by June. But now we have even more surprise features. In a recent interview, Pearl Abyss PR and marketing director Will Powers pointed to MMO Black Desert, which Pearl Abyss has updated on a weekly basis for over a year, as informing its post-launch support for Crimson Desert. Crimson Desert began life as an MMO follow-up to Black Desert before it was re-jigged to become a single-player game, and you can see some of the MMO-ness in Crimson Desert’s design as well as its post-launch support.
