Sunday forecast: Hot and humid in Chicagoland, with heat index values around 100

We’re in for a hot and humid Sunday around Chicagoland, with heat index values soaring to around 100 degrees.

That will make for stifling conditions for the 54th annual Chicago Pride Parade on the city’s North Side on Sunday afternoon, so parade-goers are advised to stay hydrated and seek cool locations if they become overheated.

High temperatures Sunday will be in the low 90s, but dew points in the 70s will make it feel warmer, hence the high heat index values. The heat and humidity are being driven into Chicagoland by south/southwest winds.

There’s also a chance for isolated late-day thunderstorms Sunday, some of which could be strong to severe. However, the main severe threat remains to the north and west, with only northern and northwest suburbs carrying a Marginal Risk for severe weather in Chicagoland on Sunday, as of the morning hours.

Storms are likely to be more widespread on Monday, so as of now, all of Chicagoland is under a Marginal Risk for severe weather as the work week begins. We’ll certainly keep you posted as conditions change and develop.

Temps look to cool a little into the early part of the coming work week, though highs will still be in the mid- to upper 80s. Then it’s likely right back to 90-degree temps for Fourth of July weekend in Chicagoland (see more below).

Fourth of July outlook

The extended outlook for Chicagoland calls for less humidity on Tuesday and Wednesday, but with highs still in the mid- to upper 80s. Then it’s back to heat and some humidity for the rest of the week, with temps in the mid- to low 90s.

The Independence Day holiday itself on Friday could be hot and muggy. From our current viewpoint, we could end up with storms the day before and day after, but not on the Fourth of July.
