Monitoring the southern Gulf for tropical development

(KLFY) — Storm Team 10 and the National Hurricane Center is monitoring a robust area of showers and storms in the western Caribbean Sea.

Currently, this disturbance has a low chance for tropical development as it moves into the Bay of Campeche this weekend. The NHC forecasts a 20% chance of this becoming a tropical depression or stronger in the next 7 days. Regardless of development, heavy rains and gusty winds will stay across Mexico.

We are NOT expecting any major impacts from this disturbance in Acadiana. Additional tropical moisture could surge northwards on Sunday leading to higher rain chances and tropical downpours for our area.

Tropical Storm Andrea formed earlier this week in the northern Atlantic and has since dissipated. The next name on this list is Barry.
