BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The champs are home and this time, they’re serving up victories by the basketful.
Fresh off a win in Omaha to secure LSU’s eighth College World Series title, five Tiger standouts returned to Baton Rouge for a different kind of shift, working the counter at the original Raising Cane’s location, famously known as “The Mothership.”
Fans lined up outside, hoping to catch a glimpse, or even a chicken finger, from national champions Chase Shores, Kade Anderson, Jared “Bear” Jones, Derek Curiel, and Anthony Eyanson. The players arrived in true Tiger fashion, rolling up in “Mardi Gras Mike,” a 13-foot float modeled after LSU’s beloved mascot.
“Welcome to Cane’s—how are you?” said Jared Jones as he greeted customers through the drive-thru window.
The players were all smiles as they served food, signed autographs, and shared stories from their championship run. After defeating Coastal Carolina to close out a dominant postseason, the Tigers added another title to LSU Baseball’s storied legacy.
“I think that’s the reason we all came to LSU,” Jones said. “To keep adding championships onto an already great program. That was our goal coming here, and we did that.”
Fans who couldn’t make it to Omaha still felt connected to the win. Dale Gaudet, one of many cheering outside, said his favorite memory was simple: “They both hit the grand slams, Monster and Bear, and I just loved it.”
Though the season has ended, the bond between the players remains strong.
“Our team gelled so quickly within the first month,” said outfielder Derek Curiel. “We just became like brothers. And when the season started, we hit the ground running.”
From the mound to the Mothership, these Tigers showed they can handle the heat, both on the field and behind the fryer.
