(WHTM) — Spoiled food is piling up as thousands in central Pennsylvania continue without power.

For people receiving SNAP benefits, formerly known as food stamps, this can make for an especially devastating loss. However, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services said there’s help available.

The law allows SNAP benefit replacements for food lost during a power outage, fire or other household misfortunes, the department said. This covers up to one month’s benefits.

Those looking to get replacement benefits should:

• Ask within 10 days of when the disaster occurred
• Contact their local county assistance office or the statewide customer service center at 1-877-395-8930
• Complete a replacement affidavit form saying how much food was lost. Forms are available in person or at dhs.pa.gov/SNAP
• Upload the completed affidavit form to COMPASS or the myCOMPASS PA mobile app
