Residents and law enforcement react to Opelousas homicide

OPELOUSAS, La. (KLFY) — Opelousas police say a man was arrested in connection to a homicide on Park Circle, where he admitted to killing his mother.

65-year-old Lisa Lloyd’s body was found on Sunday inside a trash can underneath the carport of a home.

Aaron Lloyd was taken into custody at the Opelousas Police Department after confessing to killing his mother. Police say Lloyd injected his mother, with methamphetamine prior to beating her to death.

Lloyd is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated second-degree battery, obstruction of justice, failure to seek assistance and distribution of schedule II drugs.

News 10 spoke with residents and law enforcement who say this is the first time something like this has ever happened in the area.

“This is the first time this ever happened in Park Circle, this is the first time we ever had a homicide in Park Circle,” said David Dorn, a resident who lives on Park Circle.

Dorn says he and other residents had concerns after smelling a foul odor coming from the home.

“Only time we really got a whiff of the smell is from yesterday,” said Dorn. “I remember it being hot and it had low air flowing.”

Joe Anderson with the Opelousas Police Department says more arrests are possible. He urges people to call law enforcement if they have any further information.

“There’s still an ongoing investigation,” said Anderson. “There may be more charges to come and there may be more individuals involved.”

If anyone has any further information on this homicide, you are asked to contact St. Landry Parish Crime Stoppers at 1-800 TIPS, or you can call the Opelousas Police Department at 3379482500.
