NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — You probably recognize him from his commercials featuring Big Freedia, but local attorney Juan LaFonta is also involved in the community.
He is once again celebrating Juneteenth with a free event on the Lakefront.
“Well, I have to, you know, I was born and raised the Seventh Ward. My family’s out the Lafitte, St. Bernard and Boscoville. We’ve always had an extended group of people that raised me, that took care of me, that fed me, that sat me at their table to say, ‘Come on, bro, you’re one of us.’ And I don’t see how people could arrive financially or make it and not give back and pull the people that push you up with you,” said LaFonta.
On Thursday, June 19, LaFonta is hosting his Fifth Annual free Juneteenth celebration on the Lakefront.
“This year we’re going to do 400 pounds of crawfish. I think we got about 100 pounds of jambalaya. We’re going to do drinks, 100 snowballs. This year I’ve added on kites, jump rope and chalk. Put your phone down. Let’s get out here and do like we do. Throw some horseshoes, and at the end of the night, come and enjoy some fireworks,” according to LaFonta,
The event begins at 6 p.m. and is adjacent to Franklin Avenue, behind the UNO Lakefront Arena.
The fireworks show concludes the celebration.
