Columbia recognizes longevity in fire service with parade award

SHENANDOAH – A longtime fire company member was recognized with the inaugural Al Bubnis Award at Friday’s Columbia Hose block party.

The award is named in honor of Bubnis, a 65-year member of the Columbia Hose until his passing earlier this year.

It is awarded to the eldest member on a piece of apparatus in the fire truck parade kicking off the block party festivities.

That member was Ringtown Valley Fire Co. member Ronald “Hoot” Hinderlighter, a 68 year member of the fire service over in the valley.

The company says he’s still an active member.
