BDP said the individual, identified as Jason Hoopes, is currently in custody.
BPD said the investigation started after the victim’s family and friends raised concerns about the suspect’s interaction with the victim.
“With the cooperation of the victim, the victim’s family, multiple units within the Berkeley Police Department, and our Detective Bureau, we were able to identify and arrest the suspect without incident,” said Berkeley police in a news release. “We commend the efforts of our officers in resolving this case.”
Investigators are encouraging anyone who may have been an alleged victim of Hoopes or has information related to this case to contact the Berkeley Police Department’s Sex Crimes Unit at (510) 981-5735.
