Bear spotted near Baton Rouge church
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A bear remains atop a tree in a Baton Rouge neighborhood on Friday afternoon after forcing a nearby church to take precautionary measures.

The bear sighting prompted a lockdown at Broadmoor United Methodist Church on Mollylea Drive Friday morning.

As of 4:30 p.m., the Baton Rouge Police Department confirmed the bear is still in the tree.

The church currently hosts a summer camp program and wrote in a Facebook post, “We had a beary interesting morning on campus! Don’t worry—everyone is safe and sound. Wildlife and Fisheries, along with state officials, are actively handling the situation.”

A bear was seen in a tree in baton rouge on friday morning.

Earlier this week, the Central Police Department confirmed a Black bear was seen walking near Glen Watts Road and Hooper Road.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries shared the following tips for anyone who may come in contact with a bear:

  • Remove any attractants from around your home, such as pet food, trash, and bird feeders.
  • Do not approach a bear.
  • Do not feed a bear.
  • Contact local authorities if a bear is seen in your area.
  • Don’t run from a bear. Instead, hold your arms above your head.
