Jeremy Crochet, 31, of Prairieville, was sentenced to 15 years with credit for time served, according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigations received a tip and started an investigation on Oct. 31, 2022.
The 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office said the investigation centered around the possession, manufacturing, and/or distribution of child pornography.
Investigators were able to pinpoint a residence in Ascension Parish after looking at a messaging app.
A search warrant was then executed at a home in the 17000 block of Penn Boulevard.
Multiple agencies assisted with the execution of the search warrant, including the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security, and the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Investigators took multiple electronic devices into their possession and interviewed Crochet.
They found that the devices belonged to Crochet and had “numerous photographs and videos depicting child sexual abuse material and sexual abuse of animals,” according to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Authorities got an arrest warrant, and the Prairieville man was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
Crochet will have to serve seven years of his sentence, and the remaining eight will be suspended, officials confirmed.
When he is done serving his sentence, the attorney’s office said Crochet will have to register and notify as a sex offender or child predator for life. They said he will also be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
