2 hurt in overnight drive-by shooting in East Garfield Park

CHICAGO (WGN) — An overnight drive-by shooting on the city’s West Side left two people hospitalized.

Chicago police said the shooting unfolded just before midnight on Friday in the 3500 block of West 5th Avenue in East Garfield Park.

According to police, the victims, a 35-year-old man and a 33-year-old man, were outside in the area when a white SUV approached and gunfire erupted from inside the vehicle.

Offices said the 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, while the 33-year-old man was hospitalized in fair condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and an investigation is underway.

It was the second drive-by shooting to unfold on the West Side on Friday night. Just hours before, around 9 p.m., four people, including a teen boy, were shot in the 600 block of South Homan Avenue.

Currently, there is nothing that suggests the two incidents were connected.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to contact the CPD Area Four Detectives at 312-746-8251 or dial 911.
