Chicago police say the incident unfolded at a home in the 2700 block of West Washington Boulevard in East Garfield Park.
According to police, officers were first called to the home just after midnight following a report of a home invasion.
The victim, a 28-year-old man, called police after he was awoken by a noise in his home and later discovered two masked individuals dressed in all black inside the home.
Simultaneously, as the resident encountered the alleged home intruders, two members of the victim’s family, a 29-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, returned home.
Officers said as they arrived at the home, one of the offenders pulled out a gun and opened fire in their direction before both suspects fled from the home.
According to police, the 28-year-old man who initially encountered the suspects was later hospitalized in good condition with a contusion to his leg. No other injuries were reported.
Officers say no arrests have been made in connection with the incident and an investigation is ongoing.
