Beloit mailman faces indictment for stealing and opening mail

BELOIT, Wis. (WTVO) — A Beloit mailman has been indicted in federal court for stealing and opening mail he was entrusted to deliver.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Cale Tinder, 36, was indicted by a federal grand jury this week.

According to the indictment, while he was employed as a U.S. Postal Service employee, Tinder took letters, cards, and items and opened some, and stored the rest at his home in Beloit.

Authorities allege the activity took place between February 8th, 2024, and August 28th, 2024.

If convicted, Tinder faces 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

In September 2024, Tinder was arrested after a standoff with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office at a home in the 2500 block of S. Riverside Drive.

Tinder was sentenced to 2 years’ probation on the charge of disorderly conduct, with a deferred sentence on the charge of failure to comply with police.
