Lafayette traffic stop leads to three arrests, 20 lbs. of marijuana seized

LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) — Three men were arrested and nearly 20 lbs. of marijuana was recovered as a result of a traffic stop in Lafayette Friday, authorities said.

In total, the investigation resulted in the seizure of 19.75 pounds of marijuana (estimated street value: $176,980), 4 grams of THC wax (estimated street value: $400), two 9mm handguns, one 5.56mm AR pistol and $127,630 in cash. The total estimated value of the seizure is $305,010, officials said.

Three suspects were arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center on the following charges:

  • Justin Thibodeaux, 29, of Lafayette: Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Monies Derived from Drug Proceeds.
  • Bralon Collins, 28, of Lafayette: Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I.
  • Jaylin Brown, 27, of Breaux Bridge: Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Monies Derived from Drug Proceeds.

Lafayette Police’s Narcotics Street Team conducted a traffic stop Friday in the area of Ridge Road and Rue Du Belier. A subsequent investigation by narcotics agents led to a residence on Lakepointe Drive, officials said.

Two additional traffic stops on vehicles leaving this address yielded several more pounds of marijuana, another handgun and a substantial amount of U.S. currency. A search warrant executed at the Lakepointe Drive residence resulted in the seizure of additional narcotics, an AR pistol and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.

Bond details for the three men arrested were not released.
