Beginning Monday, May 12th, the southbound lanes of Madison Street are closed between State and Market for renovation to the entire road, including sidewalks and water mains.
Detours are in place, and residents will still have access to services during the roadwork, which the city has been discussing for the past seven years. Work is expected to be completed by the end of October.
U.S. 20 is also under construction, as workers resurface nearly 5 miles of road from Rees Road, near Lena, to Flansburg Road, near Freeport. Drivers will be able to use the highway, but should expect daily lane closures.
The work is part of a nearly $2 million project, which is expected to wrap up by July.
Resurfacing is underway on Mulford and Linden Roads, which should be finished by the end of May.
Elmwood Road is closed for work and expected to reopen in mid-June.
Kishwaukee Street is getting widened near the Chicago Rockford International Airport, and drivers should expect lane closures until June 13th.
