Rueggenbach Brewing Company in Marshall is dedicating an entire weekend to Cinco de Mayo with food and live music.
Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Battle of Puebla, a victory for the Mexican army over French forces on May 5, 1862. Often mistaken as Mexican Independence Day, the battle took place more than 50 years after Mexico won independence from Spanish rule. Cinco de Mayo is important in Mexico, especially in Puebla, but after the battle, the French went on to recapture Puebla and later, Mexico City. In America, Cinco de Mayo is used as a day to honor Mexican culture as a whole and is more celebrated than in Mexico.
Rueggenbach will celebrate Mexican culture with live music, food, and its signature Mexican lager, Dos Chupacabras. For the occasion, Rueggenbach will be adding carne asada tacos, elotes, and charro beans. On Saturday, May 3, Preston Barret will perform live from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. On Sunday, May 4, Cultures Crossed will perform from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
