BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — April 30, 2025
Authorities detained four individuals Wednesday afternoon after multiple reports of a silver hatchback driving through Bloomington with its occupants pointing a gun at pedestrians and motorists — including incidents near Indiana University and several local businesses.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office responded around 11:50 a.m. to a report in the 8900 block of West Reeves Road where bystanders said individuals in a hatchback were brandishing a firearm. Less than an hour later, a second incident involving the same vehicle was reported outside Crane Federal Credit Union on Jonathan Drive. Similar reports soon followed from Lowe’s on Gates Drive, West 3rd Street near Patterson Drive, and multiple locations around the Indiana University campus, including East Atwater Avenue near the School of Optometry.
Law enforcement from both the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Bloomington Police Department worked together to locate the vehicle. At 1:45 p.m., a sheriff’s deputy spotted the car passing the Bloomington Police Department building and initiated surveillance while waiting for backup.
Deputies conducted a high-risk traffic stop on West 3rd Street near Cory Lane. All four occupants — including three juveniles — were detained without incident, and the roadway reopened within minutes.
A CO2-powered replica handgun resembling a Glock was recovered during the investigation. All four individuals have been referred to the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who may have been threatened or victimized by the occupants of the silver hatchback to call 812-349-2781.
