Missing person found dead after Grantsville Reservoir boat capsize

GRANTSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — The Utah Dept. of Public Safety’s Dive Team has found a second individual deceased after a boat capsized at Grantsville Reservoir on Friday.

The person found dead today has been identified as Sam Ki, 29, of West Jordan. The individual found dead yesterday has been identified as Paul Casity, 60, of West Jordan.

“We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Utah Department of Public Safety, Tooele County Search and Rescue, and Tooele County Fire for their dedicated efforts in the recovery operations,” a press release from the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office states. “We would also like to express our condolences to the families of these individuals for their tragic loss.”

The exact cause of this accident remains under investigation.

On Friday, April 25, shortly after 1:30 p.m., the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office received a report regarding multiple people on a boat calling for help. Moments later, the 911 caller told police that people had entered the water and were struggling to swim.

Deputies, as well as officers from the Grantsville City Police Department, fire and medical personnel from Grantsville City Fire, North Tooele Fire District, and Mountain West Ambulance Service responded to the scene.

As they arrived, responders were told that two bystanders used a kayak to retrieve one man — later identified as Paul Casity — from the water. Officials said that the man was unresponsive. Life-saving efforts were performed, but were unsuccessful, and Casity was pronounced dead at the scene.
