(WHTM)– Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed an agreement to bring Pennsylvania into a shared multi-state gaming agreement for online poker.

According to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB), Pennsylvania will be the sixth member of the Multi-State Internet Gaming Agreement for poker. Pennsylvania is now the largest state in a market shared by 38 million Americans.

The agreement will allow the PGCB to work with online market operators to ensure that Pennsylvania players are offered the same assurances as those provided through other online gaming options, according to the PGCB.

Online players in Pennsylvania will be allowed to participate in multi-state games on April 28, 2025. The PGCB says BetMGM and PA Borgata Online are already slated to participate, with others expected to join.

An estimated 150,000 Pennsylvanians play online poker, which would expand the pool of online players by more than 50%. The five other states in the shared pool include New Jersey, Nevada, Delaware, West Virginia, and Michigan.

The PGCB says that adding Pennsylvania players will allow for larger prize pools without increased buy-in amounts.

“This is a commonsense step to support hundreds of thousands of Pennsylvanians, grow our economy, and bring in more revenue to support our schools, our seniors, our small businesses, and more,” said Governor Shapiro. “Three of our neighbors are already part of this agreement – and with this action today, we’re making sure Pennsylvania remains competitive in a rapidly growing online market.
