
According to a news release from INDOT, this two-year project is aimed at improving safety and traffic flow on the southeast side of Indianapolis, including:
- Added capacity
- Bridge improvements, including a new Hanna Avenue bridge
- Pavement patching
- Resurfacing, drainage work and sidewalk improvements.
Officials said that the five-mile corridor stretches from north of the I-465 interchange to south of the I-65/I-70 overpass.
Overnight lane and ramp closures are expected to begin on Friday, giving crews the chance to install barrier walls and adjust pavement markings.
The release said that the ramp from westbound I-465 to northbound I-65 is expected to close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday and Monday. Traffic is expected to be detoured during the closure to the southbound I-65 ramp, where drivers will be able to turn around at Southport Road to access northbound I-65.
Other expected restrictions because of the project include:
- Monday and Tuesday
- Ramp from Keystone Ave. to southbound I-65 closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Northbound I-65 at the I-465 interchange, single lane closed from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m.
- Southbound I-65 at Keystone Ave. single lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- Tuesday
- Ramp from southbound I-65 to Keystone Ave. closed (Exit 107) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- Southbound I-65 approaching the Keystone exit ramp, single lane closed from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- April 30-May 2
- Northbound I-65 between Naomi and Morris Streets, reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
- April 30
- Ramp from Keystone Ave. to northbound I-65 closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- May 1
- Ramp from Keystone Ave. to southbound I-65 closed from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
- May 1-2
- Ramp from northbound I-65 to Morris/Prospect Street closed (Exit 110A) from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The release said all closures are weather-dependent. A reduced speed of 45 mph will be in place for the duration of the project.
