HATTIESBURG, Miss. (WHLT) – Hattiesburg police are investigating after a woman was killed and an adolescent was injured after being hit by a vehicle.

The incident occurred in the 6700 block of U.S. 49 around 6:00 a.m. on Friday, April 18.

Police said they determined that the woman was holding the adolescent while crossing the highway when they were struck by the vehicle. The unidentified woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to investigators, the adolescent sustained critical injuries and was airlifted to a Jackson hospital for further treatment.

Police said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
