The shooting occurred outside of the Byblos restaurant on 116 S 18th Street at 2 a.m., where the 77-year-old victim was picking up the 22-year-old victim.
As the man was getting inside the car, another vehicle pulled up with two men inside and fired four shots.
The 22-year-old man was shot in the arm, leg, and stomach. The fourth bullet landed in the head of the 77-year-old driver.
Police say that after the shooting, the driver proceeded to drive another block where he crashed into a light post on Chestnut and 17th Street.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they pronounced the driver dead around 2:30 a.m.
The 22-year-old victim was found in the back of the vehicle in critical condition. He was rushed to the hospital.
“It appears that right before the shots were fired, there was some sort of physical altercation. It also appears that someone…at least four shots were fired,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
According to witness reports, the vehicle police are looking for is a dark colored Jeep Grand Cherokee with Massachusetts plates.
Police say the entire incident was captured on surveillance cameras, which detectives will use to track down the suspects.
