Docs: Son jailed after allegedly beating mom with dog bone
MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie man is in jail after he allegedly beat his mom with a dog bone and a smoke detector.

Zachary Graham, 21, was preliminarily charged with the following:

  • Two counts of Strangulation, a Level 6 Felony
  • Public Administration – Escape, a Level 6 Felony
  • Battery – Bodily Injury, a Class A Misdemeanor
  • Public Administration, Resisting Law Enforcement, a Class A Misdemeanor

Officers with the Muncie Police Department were dispatched to the 500 block of E Jackson St. at 10 a.m. on a report of a domestic disturbance. The caller stated that her son was beating her and threatening to push her down the stairs.

Upon arrival to the scene, the police found the victim doused in liquid and she advised authorities that her son physically attacked her. Moments later, police made contact with Graham and attempted to arrest the individual but he resisted. When law enforcement did finally get handcuffs on the suspect, he reportedly tried to escape.

According to court documents, the victim reported that Graham is a drug user and that he was attacking her for the entire night. She claimed that he threw multiple items at her. He allegedly hit her arms, head, and shin. She reported being hit with a smoke detector, a dog bone, a headset, and pill bottles. Further, she stated that he grabbed her by the neck of her hoodie and yanked it twice.

The woman also told officers that she was soaked in milk after he poured it all over her. The victim said that she was experiencing head pain but refused medical assistance from emergency responders, according to police.

This is an active investigation. Information will be updated as it becomes available.

Official charges have not been filed and will be decided by the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office.
