Woodford County leaders help find temporary homes for displaced animals as community rebuilds

WOODFORD COUNTY, Ky. (FOX 56) — Woodford County leaders are working to make things easier for people impacted by recent flooding.

Woodford County Animal Care & Control Director Emily Kattner said they have already taken in more than a dozen four-legged friends while people rebuild.

“They arrived first via boat. So, they had a kind of an adventure before they arrived here. We’ve seen an influx right now,” she said.

Kattner said it has been a relief for many as they go through this difficult process.

“And everybody has expressed it. It’s just a weight off their shoulders. A huge relief not to have to worry. Are they safe? Are they being taken care of? They know they are,” she added.

Woodford County Judge Executive James Kay said it is all part of stepping up and taking care of their community.

“This has been such a wide-ranging flood disaster event that it has affected everybody in the flood area. So that includes everybody’s animals and pets and, livestock and anything else that’s connected with their lives and their properties,” he explained.

“We’re looking for some more toys to help entertain the animals while they’re here. Some calming treats, if that’s an option for people to have, maybe sitting at home that they’re not using, and puppy pads,” she said.
