Arrest made in Tammany Trace-area shooting investigation

COVINGTON, La. (WGNO) — An arrest was made on Thursday in connection to a shooting that happened near the Tammany Trace in Covington on Tuesday, April 8.

According to the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened near the intersection of Third Street and the Tammany Trace in Covington.

On Wednesday, officials say a warrant was issued for the arrest of 39-year-old Jermaine Powell of Abita Springs in connection with the investigation. On April 10, he was arrested.

STPSO officials said an investigation reportedly showed that Powell was an acquaintance of the victim. He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center on two counts of second-degree battery and one count of obstruction of justice.
