Docs: Bloomington man opened fire at sheriff’s department drone

MONROE COUNTY, Ind. — A Bloomington man has been arrested after allegedly firing multiple rounds at a drone with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

According to court documents obtained by FOX59/CBS4, Isaac Crouch, 36, is facing a Level 6 Felony for Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Mischief, which is a Class B Misdemeanor.

Court documents show the investigation began on Tuesday when MCSO deputies responded to a home after a caller reported that someone was walking around their property and “screaming and cussing.”

Deputies arrived on the scene and spoke with the caller, who showed them a video they reportedly captured of a male, who police later identified as Crouch, running near the home’s driveway while wearing dark clothing.

The caller asked the deputy to look into an abandoned home in the area since he suspected that Crouch was inside there. It was at this moment that a deputy deployed a Small Unmanned Arial System drone to find the suspect, court documents said.

The deputy reported hearing three “loud” gunshots while clearing the abandoned residence. Police later confirmed that Crouch allegedly fired three shotgun rounds at the department’s drone.

When police spoke with Crouch, he reportedly said he was searching for his dog and that was the reason he was walking through his neighbor’s property. Crouch went on to state that he would not have shot the drone if he knew it belonged to the sheriff’s department.

Crouch went on to state that he believed he was being stalked and that some “high school girls” were following him and spreading “slanderous” rumors about him, according to court documents.

According to online court records, Crouch is scheduled to appear in Monroe Circuit Court 9 for a jury trial on July 14.
