Bicyclist struck and killed by vehicle in Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, Ind. — Deputies are investigating after a bicyclist was killed following a collision with a vehicle Friday morning.

According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 6:12 a.m. to Walnut Street just south of County Road 1000 N. after receiving reports that a bicyclist was possibly struck.

The sheriff’s crash reconstruction team also responded to investigate. The deceased individual was identified as 55-year-old Jen Southerland.

DCSO said preliminary information indicates a Toyota Corolla Cross was reportedly involved in the incident and allegedly struck Southerland from behind while she was riding her bicycle. The driver submitted to a blood draw, which DCSO said is standard procedure for any crash involving a serious bodily injury or fatality.
