Bruins add to their win tally with a doubleheader sweep

PORTLAND, Ore. (GFU ATHLETICS) — Another day brings another two tennis matches for the women’s tennis team, as they complete their third two-match day in the last week and a half.

The first of two matches came against conference foe Puget Sound as they made quick work of the Loggers 7-0.

The Bruins nabbed all three doubles matches to start the day, with Arianna Rader and Kalli Wiker getting it done 6-4, Riley Bobkiewicz and Sophie Denham winning 6-2, and Abigail Bond and Juhree Kizziar securing the sweep with a 6-1 victory. The longest match was the No. 1 doubles, which Wiker and Rader won in a mere 26 minutes.

The speed continued as all of the singles matches finished in under an hour and a half. A perfect 6-0 singles sweep gave the Bruins the victory over the Loggers today, including nine sets being won 6-1 or better. Wiker kicked things off with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the No. 1 spot, and Shanah Denham followed suit with a 6-1, 6-0 victory as the two. Bobkiewicz, who normally plays in the two, rested after playing her doubles match to save energy for the second match of the day. The rest of the matches went smoothly, as Sophie Denham won 6-0, 6-4, Cassey Hitch won 6-2, 6-0, Bond won 6-3, 6-1, and Nicole Schnurbusch won 6-1, 6-1 to round out the lineup.

After about an hour break, the Bruins jumped right back into action with a 6-1 victory over Hardin Simmons.
