Louisiana Public Broadcasting honors six students as young heroes

BOSSIER CITY, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—Louisiana Public Broadcasting is honoring a student in Bossier City.

Mateo Guerrero, a senior at Bossier High School, is among six students honored by Louisiana Public Broadcasting as young heroes who are role models within their local communities. LBP defines a young hero as an exceptional young person who has excelled in academics, worked in public service, overcome personal adversity, exhibited extraordinary heroism, or inspired others to become better students, people, and citizens.

Guerrero was selected for excelling in both academics and sports. He is a five-sport varsity athlete with a 4.2 GPA and the 2024-2025 Bossier High School Student of the Year. Guerrero also participated in an international mission trip to El Salvador to mentor children and is enlisted in the Louisiana Army National Guard. Alongside Guerroro, Gabrielle Essex, a Natchitoches Central High School senior, was also chosen. Her community service involves volunteering at Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, serving as a camp liaison in Natchitoches Parish Schools’ Future Nurse Program, and working as a pre-K teacher at St. Anthony Catholic Church.
