Delivering high-quality drone footage to ground stations over diverse and often unreliable networks, such as LTE and LEO Starlink, has long been a challenge. Frequent connectivity gaps between satellites previously led to video dropouts, while latency issues hindered real-time video delivery and precise gimbal control from the ground.
By integrating Zixi onto a Jetson Nano device onboard its drones, Overwatch Aero says it has overcome these obstacles. “Paired with the Zixi platform at the ground station, this technology enables seamless signal failover, ensuring continuous and reliable video transmission. The solution also optimizes latency, allowing for improved real-time feedback and enhanced gimbal control.”
With this innovation, Overwatch Aero says it now delivers “low-latency, high-reliability video feeds, significantly improving uptime and reducing video drops. Enhanced gimbal control allows operators to capture and relay crucial situational data more effectively, directly supporting ground crews in high-stakes scenarios like wildfire response, where real-time aerial intelligence directly supports ground crews in making informed decisions.”
Jordan Hahn, Overwatch Aero CEO, say: “With Zixi, we have transformed our ability to deliver real-time aerial intelligence under challenging network conditions,” said. “This technology ensures our drones remain a reliable asset in life-saving operations.”
And Marc Aldrich, Zixi CEO, adds: “We are proud to partner with Overwatch Aero to enable seamless, high-quality video transmission in even the most challenging environments. Our technology is designed to provide unmatched reliability and low latency, ensuring that critical operations like firefighting and emergency response can depend on real-time aerial intelligence.”
Zixi’s technology will be available to demo at the NAB Show (April 6-9, Las Vegas Convention Center) at Booth W1929.
