Perfect ACT score for high school senior in Louisiana

AVONDALE, La. (WGNO) — At Patrick Taylor Science and Technology Academy in Avondale, if you’re looking for 18-year-old senior Evan Kellogg, you’ll likely find him in the library.

That’s his most likely address.

And that’s probably at least part of why he scored a perfect 36 on the ACT.

That’s the college entrance exam Kellogg just took.

WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood is taking notes on Kellogg’s secret to scholastic success.

“I’ve always been very curious, even from a young age. I remember one time my grandma brought home blood oranges. So, I went to the computer and looked it up and it said that the pigment in them was the same one in blueberries,” said Kellogg.

Kellogg is curious and confident, especially when it’s time to take a test. Like the ACT College Entrance Exam, the three-and-a-half-hour marathon of math, English, science and reading.

“Well, the first time I took the ACT, it wasn’t perfect. I was in the seventh grade, and I got a 24. It took me six times in order to get a perfect 36 on the ACT,” said Kellogg.

He is the president of his school’s chess club and the president of his school’s book club. When he graduates in the class of 2025, he plans to go to college to be a Software engineer.
