NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A new exhibition has opened at The Cabildo.
Louisiana State Museum officials announced the opening of “Bienvenue Lafayette” on Thursday, April 10.
The attraction will be an immersive experience that explores the life of French hero of the American Revolution, Marquis de Lafayette, as well as the 200th anniversary of his triumphant Farewell Tour of the United States in 1824 to 1825, and the five days spent in New Orleans from April 10-15, 1825.
On display will be some of the very same rooms in which he stayed.
“The Marquis de Lafayette, in very real terms, was a hero of the Revolutionary War against England. We are honored to be able to represent his life and triumphant visit to New Orleans in 1825. We hope you will join us for the exciting story of this patriot,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

At the age of 19, Lafayette defied King Louis XVI orders, purchased a ship, filled it with rifles and crossed the Atlantic to help colonies fight for liberty, earning George Washington’s trust and securing French support.
In his 1825 stay in New Orleans, he was celebrated not only as a hero but as “a living symbol of the city’s enduring French heritage.”
The exhibit will be on display until Jan. 18, 2026 at The Cabildo in Jackson Square.
