On Wednesday, Adan Figueroa Jr. was charged in Marion County Court with one count of aggravated battery, a Level 3 felony, and one count of battery by means of a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony.
At around 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday, officers with IMPD’s northwest district responded to the area of the 1400 block of W. 34th Street on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a man who had reportedly been shot in the leg. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
According to court documents filed on Thursday in Marion County, the man had set up a transaction on social media to purchase vape pens in the area of 34th Street and Harding.
During the transaction, the man was told to meet a person who was driving a white Infinity G37 coupe. There was a reported dispute about money, and the driver of the vehicle, who police allege was Figueroa, shot the man and drove off.
After a description of the vehicle was provided to officers, the documents said that an officer recognized the same vehicle from another investigation. This led to officers finding the vehicle in the 4800 block of Patricia Street that evening. The man who was shot reportedly identified Figueroa as the shooter in the incident.
The documents said that Figueroa was taken into custody early Wednesday morning at a home in the 4800 block of Patricia Street. During a search of the vehicle and his home, officials said they found a firearm as well as multiple cartridge casings–items that police believe were evidence from the shooting.
The court documents said that Marion County Court officials received a $30,000 surety bond for Figueroa on Wednesday. A status of counsel hearing is scheduled for March 27.
