Fallen trees damage Shreveport property; residents thankful for God’s protection

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – A line of severe storms and a tornado watch hit the area in the early Monday morning.

Downed trees covered the roads as well as heavy flooding and damaging winds. A Shreveport resident was in her living room when the storms passed through.

“I just start hearing the wind just whistling, whistling around the house, and I just hearing stuff actually hit the house. And when I saw that I looked out the window and I saw lightning strike and then electricity went off and the wind got worse and worse and I just ran to the bathroom,” said resident Jacqueline Blakes.

Her husband, Donnie Blakes was at work sheltered in place.

“By the time they thought it was clear, she called me saying baby come home now because it’s rough- trees are on the house, trees are on the house, and it’s more than one and they are huge trees- they telling me you can’t go yet, but I said man my wife at the house, I’m gone,” said Donnie Blakes.

Two large trees left damage to their home and a Mercedes vehicle.

“We have a leak we see right now in the living room where I guess where the main impact hit so we have water coming in the living room. Thankfully the fire department came, they removed the meters, they turned off the gas so whenever things come back on, it won’t spark, a fire or anything,” said Jacqueline Blakes.

The two said all things can be fixed and repaired. They thank God for protecting them.

“We’re thankful, we got insurance, so it’s all good, my wife is good, I’m thankful so hey, I’m a happy man.”
