“Very excited we’re doing all the parades tonight, parades tomorrow, the Endymion Extravaganza with Katy Perry, and we will be back at it on Sunday,” said Anisa Kelley.
Not everyone knows what to expect though when it comes to celebrating such big parades. Brooke Burch from Franklinton, for example, says she’s experienced Mardi Gras on the North Shore before, but never in New Orleans. She says the difference between the two carnivals is incredible.
“Just like, the amount of specialty items you have, the huge crowds, the floats are way bigger here, so much more involved,” said Burch.
Others are completely new to the game, like Katy Chamberlain and Hannah Lichoulas from Massachusetts, who are experiencing Mardi Gras for the first time ever.
“It’s been wild. There’s a lot of humans and it’s very exciting. Chloe loves it. She dances along,” said Chamberlain.
“I mean I don’t think I’ve ever really heard anyone screaming for a bunch of plastic, but like, I’m here for it,” said Lichoulas.
Some are seasoned vets, like 6-year-old McClure McMenemon, who has her own strategy to get all the throws: her light up gloves.
“Today I caught some beads and a paddle,” said McMenemon
