Gas Prices Hit $5 Per Gallon at Some New Jersey Stations as State Average Climbs

Prices at the pump have soared past $5 per gallon at certain locations across New Jersey. The state average now sits at $4.27 for regular fuel — a jump of $0.34 from last week’s numbers.

News 12 stopped by a station close to Newark airport where regular gas crossed the $5 mark. Relief isn’t coming.

The seasonal switch to summer blend gasoline will keep costs elevated through the next several weeks. “We make the switch over to summer blend gasoline, which is more expensive to make and therefore more expensive for us to purchase at the pump,” said Jillian Young, according to News 12.

Young works at AAA Northeast. Analysts think several factors could prevent any drop in what drivers pay.

People living here need to watch their budgets and think through their trips as costs keep climbing. The spike in fuel expenses hits commuters and families hard.

That $0.34 climb in just seven days marks a steep increase. Stations close to the airport show some of the steepest rates around.

Things won’t improve soon. Drivers are paying more now than they did weeks ago, and that trend continues.

Smart planning might ease the burden a bit. Grouping errands together and making fewer trips could save households some money.
