One dead, 2 hospitalized after three-car crash in Lincoln County

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A driver is dead and two others hospitalized after a crash involving a pickup, car and SUV in Lincoln County Friday evening.

Just before 5:30 p.m., Oregon State Police responded to reports of a crash involving three vehicles on Highway 18 near milepost 9, just northeast of Lincoln City.

Early investigation found a pickup going westbound drove into the eastbound lane, then sideswiped a car. The pickup then also crashed into an SUV head-on, authorities said.

The driver of the pickup, identified as 64-year-old Mark Sutherland of Portland, was dead at the scene, officials said.

Although the driver of the car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, the SUV driver was taken to an emergency medical center by LifeFlight.

Authorities said the crash impacted highway traffic for nearly seven hours.
