WATCH: SS United States leaves Philadelphia, begins final voyage

PHILADELPHIA (WPHL) — After months of uncertainty, and high winds delaying its departure, the SS United States left the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia on Wednesday for its final voyage.

The historic ship will become the world’s largest artificial reef, resolving a years-long rent dispute.

Previously, the U.S. Coast Guard said the ship was unfit for travel, citing the need for additional testing since it was incapable of self-propulsion.

Now, the vessel will head to Mobile, Alabama to prepare the ship before its planned sinking in Okaloosa County, Florida.

You can track the ship’s final voyage here.
