Kentucky lawmakers push to change school calendar with new bill

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) — Kentucky lawmakers are debating changes to the school calendar because of severe weather and flooding.

A bill would allow schools to add more virtual learning days or lengthen the school day to make up time missed.

If a school does not meet its 170-day requirement by June 4, it can have those missed days waived.

The author of the bill says every district has a certain amount of NTI days established for this reason.

But when severe weather and flooding come, officials say these days are often not enough.

The bill passed out of Committee and now goes to the full House.
