The record-breaking fourth Practical Nursing cohort at CLTCC’s Downtown Alexandria Campus, along with three evening Practical Nursing cohorts, contributed significantly to the increase. Additional growth in the Welding and Patient Care Technology programs also played a role in boosting enrollment.
Currently, CLTCC has 1,221 students enrolled, with that number expected to rise throughout the semester as more individuals register for courses. The expansion of general education offerings, made possible by CLTCC’s recent accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), has further fueled enrollment growth. This accreditation allows students greater access to first-semester courses transferable to public colleges, including Louisiana State University of Alexandria and Louisiana Christian University.
In addition to its for-credit students, CLTCC’s workforce non-credit program served 1,264 individuals, providing training for incumbent workers and career-seekers preparing for high-demand fields through short-term, industry-based programs.
“Recent demand across Cenla underscores the critical need for workforce development and retraining opportunities,” said Dr. Heather Poole, CLTCC’s executive vice chancellor of academic affairs and student services. “CLTCC’s 12.1% enrollment growth is not just a statistic – it represents lives being transformed through education and skill development. As industries evolve, our college stands ready to support displaced workers and strengthen the regional economy.”
CLTCC Chancellor Dr. Jimmy Sawtelle credited the institution’s partnerships and initiatives for the continued growth.
“We are very proud of our students, many of whom return to college in their twenties and thirties to pursue their career dreams,” Sawtelle said. “CLTCC’s growth is the result of multiple partnerships, including high school dual enrollment, The Orchard Foundation’s Students Exploring Career Opportunities (SECO) program, our collaboration with Louisiana Central on the summer Manufacturing Camp, and the Beyond Graduation program.”
Beyond Graduation, funded by The Rapides Foundation, helps high school seniors transition to college by providing trained career coaches from Career Compass of Louisiana and ongoing support from CLTCC staff.
“As a longtime supporter of CLTCC, The Rapides Foundation is pleased to see more students pursuing careers in fields such as manufacturing and healthcare—critical industries that drive economic growth and improve quality of life in Central Louisiana,” said Joe Rosier, the foundation’s president and CEO. “By equipping students with the skills and training needed to succeed, CLTCC is making a lasting impact on individuals and our region.”
The enrollment surge reflects CLTCC’s student-first approach, stable tuition and fees for the past nine years, and commitment to preparing students for high-demand, high-wage careers.
“CLTCC remains dedicated to providing quality education and workforce training that align with industry needs,” Sawtelle said. “Our continued enrollment growth reflects the confidence students and employers have in the education and training we offer.”
