Periods of flurries and snow showers to be followed by frigid Wednesday morning

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) – Happy Tuesday, Utah! A new cold front is sweeping through the state bringing scattered snow showers to the northern half of the state.

This system will not have a ton of moisture so mainly only light mountain accumulations will be expected with a possible dusting for some valley locations.

Winds will pick up out of the northwest behind this system, leading to a colder feel for Tuesday afternoon and evening. Wednesday morning will be the coldest, with valley lows in the teens and single digits. Mountains will likely drop down to near 0° Wednesday morning with wind chills below zero to kick off the day.

We will begin to warm things up on Thursday as a southerly flow kicks in. This will allow for moisture to surge in, bringing gusty southwest winds and more widespread moisture to the state.

Snow looks to break out across the state Thursday afternoon into the evening hours, with the potential for a rain/snow mix as far south as St. George.

On Friday, we’ll see a shift to a slightly milder profile, leading to more of a rain and snow mix for the valleys. Snow levels will hover around 4,000 to 5,000 feet up north and a bit higher in the south. We begin to dry out moving through the weekend with another potential system on Monday.

Stay tuned!
