Horses with Merced County Sheriff’s Posse will no longer march at Trump’s inauguration

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – After spending hours preparing to march at the upcoming 47th Presidential Inaugural Parade, the Merced County Sheriff’s Posse has announced they won’t be participating any more.

On Friday, the Merced County Sheriff Posse posted a social media post, announcing equestrian groups will no longer be a part of the 47th Inaugural Parade. The news comes after President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration was moved inside due to forecasted intense cold weather.

The group spent Wednesday afternoon loading up their 12 horses into two large trailers and giving them a proper send-off before they headed east to Washington, D.C. Although they won’t march anymore, the sheriff’s posse says they are grateful to have been accepted in the first place.

We have the utmost respect for their decision to ensure the safety of every attendee and their animals. At this time, we are not sure if the parade will still take place. While we’re incredibly sad about this outcome, we are truly proud to have been accepted in the first place. We can’t thank our community enough for all their support to help us get here. We hope to have more updates and will share them if we get them.
