5. UPDATE: WesTex Connect releases statement on fire at the Firework Spectacular
After hundreds of people entered the Wylie Football Stadium to watch the 2024 WesTex Connect Fireworks Spectacular, the show began with dazzling fireworks and drones creating shapes in the night sky. Suddenly, a fire broke out, damaging a vendor trailer, but thankfully, it did not cause any damage to the school property.
4. ACU bus crashes in Lubbock: Student, driver, coaches injured
While returning home from Lubbock, the Abilene Christian University football team was involved in a bus accident with a truck. The driver of the truck was arrested for driving under the influence, and four individuals were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
3. 3 Baird teens killed in Sunday morning crash
On May 5, 16-year-old Ryan Bilby and 18-year-olds Layni Potter and Madi Buchanan tragically lost their lives in a drunk driving accident in Baird. In the wake of this tragedy, hundreds of people have gathered to honor their memories through vigils and memorials. Most recently, a memorial sign was unveiled at the crash site, which is located at the intersection of FM 18 and Peyton Street.
2. Nolan County DPS Trooper arrested, charged with Bestiality
Texas DPS Trooper Christopher Prince, who was stationed in Snyder, was arrested and charged with bestiality after a complaint was filed in February 2024.
