Oktoberfest opening in New Orleans
NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Looking for beer and brats? Oktoberfest will be coming to New Orleans beginning Oct. 10.

According to Deutsches Haus, Oktoberfest will kick off with the Tapping of the Keg ceremony. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and New Orleans City Councilmember Joe Giarusso III will attend the opening. The festivities will be held at 1700 Moss Street.

Dates for the festival will be Oct. 10-11, Oct. 17-18 and Oct. 24-25. Friday hours are 4:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Saturday hours are 1:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. Tickets are $10, children 12 and under are free. The Crescent City Connection bridge will be lit up in the colors of the German flag for the opening weekend.

Festival organizers said there will be over 800 kegs of beer, with 20 on tap, including traditional imported favorites such as Warsteiner, Paulaner, Spaten, Franziskaner and Hofbräu. There will also be local craft beers brewed in the German style, such as Urban South’s Oktoberfest creation.

There will be 10 different German wines and over 22 flavors of Schnapps.

Food selections will include German sausages, such as Bratwurst, Weisswurst, and Knackwurst, with sauerkraut, stuffed cabbage rolls, schnitzel, Bavarian pretzels, roasted nuts, strudel and many other classic German dishes.

Organizers said traditional and contemporary German music will be performed, as well as dancing, with special performances by polka experts and the 610 Stompers
