WASHINGTON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Two Washington Parish Jail inmates who escaped over the weekend were recaptured the same day.

On Sunday, Aug. 31, deputies with the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office alerted the public that 21-year-old Corey Lee Ard and 21-year-old Kaid Elliott, escaped the facility around 4 p.m.

Deputies said the two allegedly escaped by climbing the perimeter fence after yard call.

“While deputies were escorting the inmates back to the jail from the yard, the inmates hid behind a structure and proceeded to scale two separate fences with barbed wire at exactly 4:06 p.m. Deputies learned of the missing inmates 30 minutes later, when a member of the public called to confirm he bonded out. These escapees are currently still at large,” according to WPSO deputies.

Ard was originally in custody awaiting trial for charges of unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana and seatbelt violation. Elliott was also awaiting trial for two counts of  unauthorized entry of an uninhabited dwelling, theft less than $1,000, aggravated burglary and a sexual battery misdemeanor.

Around 11:02 p.m., WPSO deputies announced the escapees had been located and taken into custody. Ard was found at 9:30 p.m. at the corner of Highway 25 and Highway 16.

At 10:11 p.m. Elliott was found behind the Cargill Animal Nutrition Plant in Franklinton.
