JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — A Jefferson Parish judge sentenced 36-year-old Micheal Harris for the murder of a Belle Chasse couple Wednesday, Sept. 3.

According to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney’s Office, Harris was given two back-to-back life sentences. He was convicted by a jury on Aug. 1 of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of 36-year-old David Sumera and 26-year-old Alexxis Eymard.

Sumera was driving a rented 4-door Ford Ranger that he had borrowed and was delivering heroin to someone on Sept. 24, 2022. Eymard sat to his right in the front passenger’s seat. Behind her sat Harris, who was acquainted with the couple.

Armed with a 9mm semiautomatic pistol, without provocation, Harris shot the couple in the backs of their heads minutes after they pulled out of the driveway.

Harris was arrested Feb. 16, 2023.
