NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Five inmates were injured in a stabbing incident at the Orleans Justice Center Sunday, Aug. 17.
According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office, the stabbing occurred around 7:41 p.m. inside housing unit 1A. Staff responded to the scene and a full shakedown of the unit was conducted.
OPSO officials said four inmates were transported to a hospital for evaluation and treatment while one was treated in the jail by medical staff. The four transported to a hospital have returned to the jail.
Family members of the injured inmates were contacted and allowed to speak with them.
The incident remains under investigation.
