
According to the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office, on Jan. 7, 2021, St. James Parish Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at a house in Convent. They said they learned that Carlos Washington
Washington eventually came out with his son, armed with a handgun. He was taken into custody, and deputies entered the house. Inside they found Anita Jacobs, Washington’s mother, dead from a gunshot wound to her head. Washington’s stepfather was found with a non-lethal gunshot wound. He was treated at a local hospital.
Washington was then booked into the St. James Parish Jail.
Washington was given the following sentences, which are to run concurrently:
- Second-degree murder: Life in prison without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
- Attempted second-degree murder: 50 years without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon: 20 years without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
- Second-degree cruelty to a juvenile: 40 years without benefit of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
