A WARN notice filed with the state confirms all staff at this location will lose their jobs by mid-August. Spokesperson Dana Ward said the market will close “on or about” that date.
The store sits at 481 River Road. It’s in the Edgewater Commons shopping center on the Hudson River. Target and HomeGoods also operate there.
“The company’s priority is placing as many associates as possible in other locations,” Ward said, according to Patch. “Human Resources and Labor Relations will work closely with affected associates and their unions, where applicable, to identify opportunities consistent with labor agreements and applicable law.”
Workers who can’t find another position will receive severance packages. Ward said those benefits will follow labor agreements and applicable laws.
The closure will leave a vacant space in the shopping center, which draws customers along the Bergen County waterfront. This location has served residents in the area for years.
Albertsons runs multiple grocery chains across the country. It owns Acme Markets along with other brands in various states.
Staff members learned about the closure just days ago. The layoff notices came as required under state law for mass terminations.
“Associates who are unable to secure another position will be eligible for severance in accordance with those agreements and laws,” Ward added.
The Aug. 15 deadline gives workers about three months. They can search for new employment during this time. Company officials said they will help staff find positions at other stores where possible.
